Soweto Fashion Week is representing South Africa at the fourth BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow, running September 28-30 as part of the wider Moscow Fashion Week, combining runway presentations with business talks on manufacturing and market access for designers from the Global South.
Founder and CEO Stephen Manzini leads the South African delegation alongside fellow African fashion leaders Tery Carola of Seychelles, Nana Addo Tamakloe of Ghana and Mustafa Hassanali of Tanzania. The summit expects more than 250 speakers and 70 fashion shows, with 109 countries having historically taken part.
“The next step is turning that dialogue into real markets, investment and movement of talent,” Manzini said, adding that “the Global South has the creativity, manufacturing capability and consumer markets to build a stronger fashion economy on its own terms.”
Soweto Fashion Week, now in its 26th season since its 2011 founding, has increasingly focused on converting international recognition into commercial partnerships for African designers.
