ChipMango Raises $1.9M To Build African Chip-Design Talent

Nigerian-founded semiconductor startup ChipMango has raised $1.9 million in seed funding led by Atlantica Ventures to expand its chip-design engineering operations across Africa, Europe and the United States, according to Disrupt Africa. The company partners with semiconductor firms to deliver AI-powered learning and certification programs in microelectronics, along with custom labs and course content for universities and educators.

ChipMango was founded in 2022 by Ola Fadiran and Jovan Andjelich. “The next era of AI will not be defined by software alone. It will depend on who can design the chips, systems and intelligent hardware that power it,” Fadiran said. The seed round also drew participation from DFS Labs, Madica, Kaleo Ventures, Trilinear Technologies and Malta Ventures.

Atlantica Ventures partner Anikó Szigetvári said the firm backed the startup because “ChipMango converts Africa’s deep engineering talent into world-class chip-design capability.” The fresh capital will go toward expanding ChipMango’s engineering and product teams as it scales operations internationally.

Part of the funding will support a new design center in Malta, backed by Malta Ventures, along with semiconductor capability and workforce-development initiatives tied to AI infrastructure projects in Rwanda. The expansion positions African engineering talent to compete for roles in the global semiconductor supply chain as demand for chip-design and AI-hardware skills grows worldwide.

The raise adds to a wave of fresh capital moving into African tech this month, with Egypt’s 3C Coding School closing a $3 million seed round and Kenya’s Unmarkets securing a $7.5 million first close, according to Launch Base Africa. The activity comes weeks after thousands gathered in Cape Town for the 29th edition of the Africa Tech Festival, where investors and founders discussed the continent’s growing role in global technology supply chains.
