Abuja Nigeria: Nigerian miner Promethean Resources advanced partnerships with US firms Vermeer, Renewvia and Terra Industries the day after Abuja and Washington signed a wider minerals framework. The company, founded in 2012 and led by Managing Director Demola Gbadegesin, is the local face of the package
Each deal covers a different gap. Vermeer, a US equipment maker, will explore deploying precision mining machinery across Promethean’s iron ore, tin, lithium and gold portfolio. Renewvia Energy will build solar, battery storage and mini-grid systems for mining and processing sites, and extend electricity to host communities. Terra Industries completes the set with a letter of intent to explore technology-enabled security at mining and processing sites, starting with proposed deployments in Plateau and Kaduna States
The government side moved first. Solid minerals minister Dele Alake and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau signed a framework in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. It covers geological data, exploration, mineral development and processing, infrastructure and technical capacity building. Nigeria puts the value of its mineral resources at about $700 billion
Washington has its own reasons for showing up. The Trump administration has cut foreign aid and pushed investment deals instead, especially in Africa, where Chinese firms have deeper roots. Lithium is the sharpest example: Chinese companies have been among the most active foreign investors in Nigeria’s emerging lithium sector
Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole framed the private deals as proof that paper frameworks can become real commercial partnerships. She said the Vermeer tie-up, with Renewvia for power and Terra for security, gives Nigeria a base for investment and local value addition. Local value addition is the phrase to watch. Governments across Africa are pushing to process minerals at home instead of shipping them out raw.
Abuja is also putting its own money on the table. A grant programme launched this year covers up to 70% of exploration costs for licence-holders hunting more than 44 minerals across 500 locations, including lithium, nickel, cobalt and rare earths.

Security sits inside the package for a reason. The announcements name three priorities: modernising mining operations, reliable energy, and protecting mining assets and personnel.
