South African actress Pearl Thusi has disputed a nearly R15 million tax demand from the South African Revenue Service, calling the figure “grossly incorrect and therefore misleading.”
SARS issued the demand on August 6 and filed it electronically on September 2, listing R9.8 million in personal income tax, R5.2 million in interest and R20,000 in administrative penalties, giving 10 business days to settle or pursue remedies.
“While I acknowledge that there is an amount owing to SARS, the figure quoted is grossly incorrect and therefore misleading,” Thusi said, adding that she takes her taxpayer responsibilities seriously and is engaging directly with SARS to resolve the matter.
If the dispute remains unresolved, SARS could pursue a civil judgment and warrant of execution to seize assets, or attempt third-party recovery from entities that owe Thusi money. A SARS spokesperson declined to comment on the specifics, citing taxpayer confidentiality.
