South African businesswoman Bongani Mthombeni and former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth are expecting their first child together, announcing the pregnancy on social media this week.
The couple shared the news with a photograph showing three pairs of trainers, two adult-sized pairs alongside a much smaller pair accompanied by the message: “Tiny kicks are officially on the way!!”
Mthombeni has also shared images showing her growing baby bump, including moments from workouts with Booth.
The baby will be the couple’s first child together. Both Mthombeni and Booth already have two sons from previous relationships, meaning the new arrival will become part of a blended family of seven.
The pregnancy announcement comes after a relationship that attracted considerable public attention in South Africa.
Booth’s relationship with Mthombeni first became a major subject of public discussion in 2022 following allegations by his then-wife, former model Sonia Booth, who accused him of infidelity. The controversy became widely known as the “cheesecake scandal” after Sonia publicly alleged that a cheesecake made by Matthew had been intended for another woman.
Booth disputed the allegations.
Matthew and Sonia Booth’s divorce was finalised by the Johannesburg High Court on June 28, 2024. Mthombeni also finalised her divorce from Klaus Möller in November 2023.
Despite the intense public scrutiny surrounding the early stages of their relationship, Booth and Mthombeni continued together and have since shared aspects of their life as a blended family.

Their pregnancy announcement now marks a new chapter for the couple.
For Booth, who earned international recognition during his football career as a Bafana Bafana defender, the arrival will add another child to his existing family. Mthombeni, who has a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and is also a businesswoman, is likewise preparing to welcome her third child.
The couple have not publicly announced the baby’s due date.
