The Nigeria Police Force said it arrested 262 suspects and rescued 27 kidnap victims in a nationwide sweep covering September 5 to 11, targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, banditry, cultism, human trafficking and drug peddling.
Operatives recovered 34 firearms and 375 rounds of ammunition, neutralized 11 armed suspects and recovered 11 vehicles. Logged incidents included 50 homicides, 28 armed robberies, 27 kidnappings, 22 banditry cases, 10 cultism cases, 8 gender-based violence cases and 5 terrorism-related incidents.
Notable rescues included 60-year-old Nduka Omoyi in Delta State, freed after a gunfight between police and his abductors; three kidnap victims, including a two-year-old child, in Gombe State; and a Methodist clergyman, Ndulo Amofia, in Ebonyi State.
Force spokesperson CSP Aniete Iniedu said the operations reflect “the effectiveness of its intelligence-led, proactive and community-collaborative policing strategy,” under Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
