South Africa’s anti-immigration movement March and March has escalated its campaign, issuing an ultimatum for undocumented immigrants to leave the country by September 30, according to a report published September 11.
The group is threatening demonstrations it claims could draw as many as 1.5 million participants if the deadline passes without mass departures, raising concerns among rights groups about potential unrest and vigilante action targeting foreign nationals.
The movement has staged earlier rounds of protests through 2026, and authorities have previously made mass arrests during related demonstrations. Tensions around immigration remain a flashpoint ahead of South Africa’s November municipal elections.
