Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu opened EbonyLife Place London on October 8, 2026, unveiling what is billed as the United Kingdom’s first dedicated Black and African cinema and creative hub, with London Mayor Sadiq Khan in attendance.
Located near Nine Elms in south-west London, the venue mirrors the EbonyLife complex Abudu launched in Lagos in 2019 and features the 160-seat “Amani Auditorium” for screening Nollywood films and Black-experience productions, alongside masterclasses, industry panels, live performances, a Nigerian restaurant, a bar, a lounge and a boutique for African and diaspora designs and art. EbonyLife Group financed the project almost entirely, though no figure was disclosed.
Khan later posted that he was proud to see the partnership between Lagos and London “go from strength to strength,” calling the venue a “new home for African and Black film, music, art, fashion and food.” Abudu described it on X as “a new destination for Black and African creativity, culture and connection in the heart of London,” noting it is “home to the only Black and African cinema in the United Kingdom.”
The launch coincided with the London Film Festival and follows Nollywood’s recent record-breaking Lagos screening of “Black Market”, underscoring the industry’s growing international reach this year.
