Sixteen suspected terrorists are dead after an ambush by Nigerian troops in Boima, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the military says.
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, carried out the ambush as part of engagements across Sector 4 between September 30 and October 1. The army says soldiers combed the area afterwards and recovered several firearms, magazines and ammunition.
That was only the first move.
On October 1, the Air Component of the operation struck a group of suspected terrorists gathered with motorcycles in Sector 4. A post-strike assessment confirmed the position was destroyed. Survivors scattered. The military has not said how many were hit. von
The insurgents did not simply absorb the blows. Troops also repelled coordinated attacks on military positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha. Two bases hit in one window suggests fighters with the numbers and nerve to test fixed positions, not just prey on villages.
The timing is hard to miss. The Theatre Command released the details as Nigerians marked Independence Anniversary, and used the moment to reaffirm its commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity.
Every figure here comes from the military’s own account. No independent party has verified the body count, the identities of the dead, or the damage from the airstrike. Africentra has not seen casualty figures for the soldiers at Garkida and Garaha, and the army has not published any.
Adamawa knows the cost of getting this wrong. In February, gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram killed at least 17 people in Shuwari, a community in Madagali Local Government Area. Residents there said afterwards that going to their farms had become a gamble with their lives

Sixteen is a number the army can claim. Whether it keeps the next attack away from Gombi’s farmland is what villagers will be watching.
