Bayern Push New Deal For Nigerian-Rooted Star Olise

Bayern Munich are working on a new contract for Michael Olise, the winger with Nigerian and Algerian roots who plays international football for France, that could for the first time include a release clause, according to Bayern insider Christian Falk. Liverpool, who have been linked with Olise as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, are among the clubs watching the situation closely.

Olise, 24, joined Bayern from Crystal Palace in 2024 and has become one of the club’s most important attacking players. His father is Nigerian and his mother Algerian, and he was courted by both federations, as well as England, before choosing to represent France at senior level. His heritage remains a point of pride for fans who follow him as one of several elite European-based players with direct African family ties.

Olise’s current Bayern contract does not include a release clause, but that could change under a new deal the club is negotiating. Bayern has shifted its long-standing policy against release clauses in recent years, with players such as Jamal Musiala already carrying one. Reports place a potential figure for Olise’s clause anywhere between 150 million and 250 million euros, reflecting how highly the club values him.

“Bayern Munich is now pushing hard to get Michael Olise on fresh terms, as there’s simply no player like the right winger available on the market,” Falk said, adding that any release clause attached to Olise’s contract “will be very, very high.” Real Madrid also pursued Olise over the summer, and interest from elsewhere in the Premier League has not gone away.

The chase for Olise is another reminder of how much of Europe’s most valuable attacking talent traces back to Africa, a dynamic already on display this month as national teams across the continent push through 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with several federations relying on Morocco’s stadiums to host their own qualifying matches.
