Liverpool began their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 victory over West Ham at Anfield on Sunday, thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota.

Salah’s first Liverpool’s lead in the 16th minute with a clinical finish after being put through followed with a fantastic goal from Nunez, who signed from Benfica in the summer, opened the scoring in the 60th minute. While Diogo Jota came with a 3rd goal to seal the match at 85th minute.

West Ham had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to do much except getting a goal from Jarrod Bowen at the 42nd minute. Liverpool held on for a comfortable victory to start their season in perfect fashion.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp:

“I am very happy with the performance and the result. We started the game very well and created a lot of chances in the first half. We could have scored more goals, but we were very clinical in the second half.

“Darwin Nunez had a great debut and he scored a very important goal for us. He is a very good player and I am sure he will score many more goals for Liverpool this season.”

West Ham manager David Moyes:

“We are disappointed with the result, but I thought we played quite well. We created a few chances in the first half, but we could not take them.

“Liverpool are a very good team and they are always difficult to beat at Anfield. We will learn from our mistakes and come back stronger in the next game.”

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has become the fifth player in Premier League history to either score or assist a goal in each of his team’s first six games of a season. He joins David Beckham (Manchester United, 2000-01), Thierry Henry (Arsenal, 2004-05), Sergio Agüero (Manchester City, 2019-20), and Erling Haaland (Manchester City, 2022-23) in this exclusive club.

Liverpool have also won five of their opening six games of a Premier League season for just the third time, all three of which have come under Jürgen Klopp (also 2018-19 and 2019-20).

West Ham manager David Moyes has now failed to win any of his 72 Premier League away games against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United combined (D21 L51). He has also lost his last 19 away games against Liverpool in the competition (D6 L13), including his last eight in a row.

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 win over West Ham. Mohamed Salah gave them the lead from the penalty spot, but Jarrod Bowen equalized with a diving header just before the break. Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota scored in the second half to seal the victory for Liverpool.
