Nigerian comedian Edo Pikin has confirmed that Osagie Daniel Idedia, popularly known as MC Porkupyne, was allegedly ambushed and severely beaten in Benin City, Edo State, leaving him in critical condition.

Edo Pikin, in a video statement, dismissed suggestions circulating on social media that images and videos showing MC Porkupyne’s injuries were generated using artificial intelligence (AI) or created with makeup, insisting that the attack was real.

He, however, urged the public to avoid speculation, explaining that more substantial and factual information about the incident would be provided as it becomes available. He added that the comedian’s health remains the immediate priority.

According to reports, MC Porkupyne arrived in Benin City from Lagos on Wednesday to honour a performance engagement at a hotel where the incident reportedly occurred. He was allegedly attacked by unidentified persons, severely beaten and left unconscious, requiring urgent medical attention.

The comedian was reportedly rescued by individuals who rushed him to a hospital for treatment. His vehicle, said to belong to an African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in Benin City, was also reportedly vandalised during the incident.

The alleged attack has drawn condemnation from entertainers and political figures, including Maleke and MC Casino, who joined others in expressing concern over the incident.

Friends, entertainers and politicians who reportedly visited MC Porkupyne at the hospital condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable and calling on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

MC Porkupyne has recently been associated with the ADC, raising concerns among some political figures about the safety of individuals linked to political activities. However, the circumstances surrounding the attack and any possible political motive have not been independently established.

One of the political figures who condemned the incident stressed that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to freedom of association and political affiliation, adding that no one should face intimidation or violence because of their political connections.

The speaker urged security agencies to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice, warning that violence could undermine peaceful political participation in Edo State.

“This is not a development for us in Edo State politics,” the speaker said, arguing that political parties should focus on presenting their policies and persuading voters rather than allowing violence to define political competition.

The speaker also called for urgent intervention by security agencies, warning that failure to address such incidents could escalate tensions among political supporters.

Describing the attack as disturbing, the speaker said it was unacceptable for anyone to be subjected to such treatment, regardless of their political affiliations.

The Edo State governor was also challenged to demonstrate his administration’s stated zero-tolerance position on crime, criminality and cultism by ensuring that the incident receives urgent attention.

“We are not the perpetrators of this violence. We are not going after anybody. We are campaigning peacefully on issues about what we intend to do differently,” the speaker said, maintaining that political engagement should be driven by ideas rather than intimidation.

The comments were reported by ITV News correspondent Efosa Uwagwe in Benin City.

Edo Pikin also criticised social media users who dismissed reports of the attack as propaganda or AI-generated content without establishing the facts. He urged the public to look beyond online captions and allow credible information to emerge.

While Edo Pikin has described MC Porkupyne’s condition as critical, details surrounding the identities of the alleged attackers, the precise circumstances of the incident and any possible arrests remain unclear.

The reported assault has sparked concern among entertainers and political associates, with calls growing for a thorough investigation and accountability.

Africentra will continue to monitor the situation as further verified information becomes available.
