A renowned Nigerian chef and internet personality, Hilda Effiong Bassey also known as  Hilda Baci, has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Cooking Marathon by an individual.”

In an impressive display of culinary prowess, Hilda shattered the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, held by Guinness World Record holder Lata Tandon, on Monday morning 15th May 2023.

Hilda embarked on this extraordinary challenge on Thursday at precisely 4 pm when she ignited her cooker, determined to push the boundaries of cooking endurance. Even after breaking the existing record, this talented restaurateur continues her relentless pursuit, aiming to cook for an astounding 96 hours. If successful, she will establish a groundbreaking new world record, becoming the first person on Earth to spend such an extraordinary amount of time dedicated to cooking.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the scene in person to have a taste of meals prepared by the new Guinness record breaker.

Hilda continues to garner an overwhelming outpouring of support from various sectors, including political leaders, celebrities, religious leaders, and fellow Nigerians who are eager to rally behind her extraordinary achievement.

Even in the face of a heavy downpour in the early hours of Monday, the Nigerian community remained steadfast in their support for Hilda.

Prominent Nigerian stars, including Davido and Wizkid, have also joined the chorus of support for Hilda. These influential figures in the Nigerian music industry have voiced their backing for Hilda’s extraordinary endeavor, adding their influential voices to the growing wave of encouragement surrounding her record-breaking cooking marathon.

On April 2nd, Hilda took to Instagram to announce her ambitious pursuit, a dream she had nurtured for five years. Determined to turn this vision into reality, she set out to cook continuously for four days and four nights, aiming to surpass the record set by Tandon in India back in 2019.

While Hilda’s remarkable feat has captured the attention of many, confirmation from the Guinness World Record is still pending. The organization has expressed the need to thoroughly review the evidence before validating her achievement.

Until such a record is broken again in the future, Hilda will continue to be the title holder for the “Guinness Longest Cooking Marathon 2023” till infinity.
